It’s an exciting time for Cobb teachers: the start of school is just a week away. Adding to the celebratory air in schools is the recognition of the District’s Teachers of the Year (TOTYs). Today, three of the best are being honored as 2015-16 Teachers of the Year for Cobb Schools. The elementary level winner is Ginny Lyon, Kindergarten teacher at Chalker Elementary in Kennesaw. The middle level winner is Carol Mickus, a 7th grade science teacher at Cooper Middle School in Austell. The high school level TOTY is First Sergeant Kathryn Burns (US Army), who teaches JROTC at Campbell High School in Smyrna. All were greeted by a team of Cobb Schools’ leaders, including Superintendent Chris Ragsdale, who broke the news that they are now joining an elite and distinguished group of educators, identified as going above and beyond as teachers and leaders.
