Doug LaVigne, physics teacher at South Cobb High School, is spending part of his summer serving as a “Teacher At Sea” in the Bering Strait of Alaska! Mr. LaVigne was selected to be part of a research trip on the vessel the JOIDES Resolution, which stands for Joint Oceanographic Institutions for Deep Earth Sampling. The team takes core samples and measurements from under the ocean floor, giving scientists a glimpse into Earth’s development and also a scientific means of measuring climate and environmental change throughout a significant part of our planet’s history.

Supporters and students can follow Mr. LaVigne’s activities as he blogs on the program Web site.
