Nickajack Elementary Continues to Go Green, Completes Mural of Bottle Caps

Students, staff, and parents at Nickajack Elementary School revealed the mural made of 1,000s of bottle caps after their Earth Day kick off on April 11.

Students, staff and parents at Nickajack Elementary School recently completed a mural made of 1,000s of bottle caps.

The Garden Club, Art Club and teachers—Mrs. Deryl Heflin, Ms. Nicole Bonadonna, Mrs. Diane Kordel, Mrs. Amanda Wood and Ms. Dana Zhun—helped make the project a success. The fun go-green project began in the fall by collecting the bottle caps and promoting the student project. During winter, they began sketching, painting, sorting, and washing the bottle caps.

“This project allowed our students to realize the beauty of going green and practicing the three R’s—Reduce, Reuse and Recycle,” said Mrs. Kordel, Nickajack Elementary School first grade teacher. “I’m also now an expert in all the different types of bottle caps.”

They revealed the bottle cap mural after their Earth Day kick off with the company Eco Sneakers on April 11.
