Cobb County School Leaders to Participate in Spelling Bee


When Communities In Schools of Marietta/Cobb County (CISMCC) holds its inaugural Adult Spelling Bee in a few weeks, the Cobb County School District will send some of its finest wordsmiths to the spelldown competition. The trio prepared for the challenge is comprised of Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Robert Downs; Floyd Middle School Principal, Dr. Teresa Hargrett; and Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, Jennifer Lawson.

Nine teams will take the stage on Friday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Earl Smith Strand Theatre for a night of laughter and fun to benefit CISMCC’s mission to support students by empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

Atlanta Braves game host, Mark Owens, will serve as the Bee Emcee. The judges will include WSB Radio Personality, Condace Pressley and Miss USA 2010, Jessica Black.
The teams are comprised of local community leaders including the following:

Mayors Team: Derek Easterling and Tommy Allegood
The Weather Channel Team: Jen Carfango, Maria LaRosa and Greg Postel
Public Safety Team: Chief Sam Heaton, Chief William Tanks and Destiny Davidson
Chefs/Bakers Team: Mamie Doyle, Jeff Brister and Christos Giannes
Artists Team: Amy Cobb, Claire Dunaway Cyr and Trapp Tischner
Law Team: Bobby Johnson, Thomas “Tom” J. Mew IV and Chase Swanson
Judges Team: Justice P. Harris Hines, Judge Toby Prodgers and Judge Kelli Wolk
Marietta City Schools Team: Dayton Hibbs, Jody Drum and Jill Sims
Cobb County Schools Team: Dr. Robert Downs, Dr. Teresa Hargrett and Jennifer Lawson
