The Captain Planet Foundation recently announced its partnership with Ford Elementary School in Acworth for a new environmental-based education initiative, Captain Planet’s Learning Garden Program. Ford was chosen because of the school’s long-standing commitment to integrating school gardens into the curriculum. The program will launch similar learning gardens in several other elementary and middle schools in Cobb County.

“It has been exciting to reconnect with the Captain Planet Foundation and expand environmental education in our area”, said Ford Elementary Principal Peggy Pepper. “This subject is very close to our hearts here at Ford and we are delighted to provide resources to help their program flourish. It is our desire that more schools will have gardens and children will get excited about learning outdoors.”

Late last year, Captain Planet honored Ford teacher Catherine Padgett (pictured above) as a “Superhero for Earth” in recognition of her work on Ford’s outdoor learning environments.
