The Fair Oaks Elementary School Eagle Chorus teamed up with the Milford Elementary School chorus to sing the national anthem at an Atlanta Braves game.
Students at Fair Oaks raised funds throughout the school year in order to charter a bus to the stadium for the chorus’ performance on April 18.
Fair Oaks music teacher, Megan Martinez, first helped Fair Oaks Elementary students perform at a Braves game three years ago. She wanted Fair Oaks students to have the opportunity to attend a Braves game, which they may not be able to do without the fundraising efforts at the school.
“I will never forget their faces lighting up as they felt the enormity of what they had accomplished,” Martinez said. “I have done it ever since and intend to keep doing it because as I tell them all the time, ‘You deserve it!’”
In addition to their performance in the new stadium, the students also enjoyed a “tailgate” experience and watching the game.
“I thought the Braves trip was awesome,” said Fair Oaks fifth grader, Jasmine. “I loved how well organized everything was, especially how the Braves people organized us in stations to get us ready to sing. I also really loved the setup of the seats. It’s a great stadium!”
