Staff at Rocky Mount Elementary set a goal to promote positive attendance habits for students during the 2016-2017 school year. They held several incentive events to encourage students to get to school before the tardy bell rang. Bus riders arrive at school on time. So school staff rewarded students with prizes if they rode the bus during “Bus A Move Weeks” in January and May.
As the finale to the school’s yearlong attendance campaign, the staff recognized the 17 Rocky Mount students who had perfect bell-to-bell attendance for the entire school year. Those students who were in their seats, ready to learn, every day earned Rocky Mount’s Gold Attendance Award. The students who only missed one day, but otherwise had perfect bell-to-bell attendance, earned the school’s Silver Attendance Award.
The students were recognized on the school’s televised morning announcements and walked away with attendance certificates. However, the big award for the Gold attendance students came when they spun the prize wheel. Prizes included Atlanta Braves souvenirs, free food at various restaurants, iTunes gift cards, tickets to a Braves game and even a $50 Target gift card.
Silver attendance students earned prizes too. They took home a package of assorted gifts from area businesses and restaurants including Chick-fil-A, Bruster’s Ice Cream, Wendy’s, Stars and Strikes and more. Local businesses and members of the Rocky Mount community donated the prizes.
