Campbell High School Holds College Signing Day Celebration

Campbell High School held a College Signing Day for seniors on May 18 to celebrate the students’ admission to college.

When student athletes sign with college sports teams, the event is surrounded by ceremony. Parents cheer. Friends cheer. Coaches cheer. The fanfare celebrates the athletes’ hard work and the bright future awaiting them.

Staff at Campbell High School wanted to celebrate the success of the school’s graduating seniors in the same way but focused on academics. So, they held a College Signing Day for the Class of 2017.

Prior to walking across the stage in caps and gowns, more than 160 Campbell students made commitments to continue their educational journey. On May 18, the future college students signed their names and colleges on a white banner in the school gym. Their parents, friends and teachers cheered. Cameras flashed, and the students smiled.

There was a sea of red of the college-bound students sitting in the stands of the Campbell High School gym, as the seniors waited for their school’s name to be called. The future University of Georgia students had already traded in the Campbell High School blue for UGA’s red and black. The Class of 2017 included the largest group of Campbell students in recent history who are headed for Athens, Ga., the home of the Bulldogs.

The Georgia State University-bound students only outnumbered the 31 Bulldogs by two. With 15 students, Kennesaw State University will welcome the third highest number of Campbell Spartans.

The University of West Georgia and Georgia Tech tied for fourth with nine Campbell students. The eight students headed to Oglethorpe University may see some of their Campbell classmates around campus.

In all, Campbell’s Class of 2017 is sending students to 50 different colleges and universities. A few Campbell seniors also committed to join the U.S. military following graduation. Two signed with the U.S. Army National Guard while the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army each got one new recruit out of Campbell’s Class of 2017.
