The Cobb County School District’s Adult Education Center received a gift of more than 100 dictionaries from the Rotary Club of Smyrna. Representatives from the club presented the dictionaries to students in the program March 11. The dictionaries will be used to support students working toward completion of the General Educational Development (GED) and English As A Second Language (ESL) programs.
The Rotary Club has a strong focus on education and literacy, among other avenues of community and international service. Throughout the nation, the various local clubs have been instrumental in enriching the lives of students by opening up educational avenues (seminars, workshops, scholarships, and scholarships programs) that for some might have been impossible to obtain. To date, Rotary has contributed more than 12 million dictionaries across the USA over fifteen years.
The contribution of dictionaries to the Adult Education Center was made possible because of the vision and dedication of Mrs. Theresa Hall, a volunteer tutor with the program, who saw the need for dictionaries and knew the difference they would make in the classrooms.
