It certainly is no surprise that the band partially led by a man nominated for a Grammy award as a music educator continues to receive honors. The Dickerson Middle School Percussion Ensemble has received an invitation to perform for the prestigious Sandy Feldstein/Music For All National Percussion Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana, March 15-17, 2018. The Ensemble’s Director of Bands is Williams Grimes. Assistant Band Director is Scott Brown, who is in the quarterfinals for the Grammy award.
The Music for All Festival has recognized America’s top high school concert bands and percussion ensembles since 1992, and began inviting middle school bands for the 2008 event. This will be the third time that the Dickerson Middle’s Percussion Ensemble has been invited to perform — the most appearances of any middle school percussion ensemble in the country.
In addition, the percussion ensemble has been invited to perform for the Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference in Athens, Georgia on January 26, 2018. The GMEA conference features performances by some of the state’s finest ensembles as well as educational sessions for directors in attendance.
The Dickerson Percussion Ensemble is recognized as one of the nation’s finest middle school percussion ensembles receiving invitations to perform and present clinics for numerous national and international music conferences including the National Middle School Association Conference (2003), the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (2006), the Sandy Feldstein/Music For All National Percussion Festival (2010,2014, & 2018), and the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic (2008 & 2014).
