CCSD Football Coaches Gather for Kick Off Luncheon

Football coaches from across Cobb County gather at Roswell Street Baptist Church for the annual kick off luncheon July 21.

They will soon meet beneath the Friday night lights on football fields across Cobb County. However, they recently put aside their team rivalries, for a few hours, to celebrate together at the annual Cobb County Kickoff Luncheon.

Each Cobb County School District football coach stood up to introduce their coaching team, who will help kick off their school’s run at a state championship.

The coaches also saw a sneak peak of some of the elite Cobb players their teams will soon face on the field. The Marietta Daily Journal, which helped sponsor the luncheon along with Cobb EMC, debuted an intimidating video reel of Cobb County’s upcoming season of high school football stars dubbed the “Dynamite Dozen.”

Georgia State’s football coach, Shawn Elliot, took the mic to inspire the room of coaches to tackle the new season and make the game fun for the players.

He stressed preparation to the coaches emphasizing that he has prepared his entire career to be a head coach. Whether it’s a surprise loss, a change in game strategy, a crisis or new coaching opportunity, Coach Elliot encouraged the coaches to be ready for anything.

“Every single one of you [will] have an opportunity. It is going to come unexpectedly. Know what you are getting into. You have responsibilities,” Coach Elliott told the crowd of high school football coaches. “At some point, whether it is the season or a practice, something is going to come to you. Something is going to come up that you better be prepared for.”
