Dickerson and Dodgen Middle Schools Named National Blue Ribbon Schools

The U.S. Department of Education (USDOE) named two Cobb County School District (CCSD) schools 2017 National Blue Ribbon Schools: Dickerson Middle School and Dodgen Middle School. The CCSD schools are two of the 342 schools in the nation and nine schools from Georgia to be recognized in 2017.

U.S. Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, announced the list of schools September 28. The National Blue Ribbon Schools program celebrates school excellence and recognizes the overall academic performance, or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. The award-winning schools serve as examples for other schools throughout the nation.

“Dickerson is excited to celebrate such a unique recognition,” said Principal Dr. Carole Brink. “The Blue Ribbon Award is truly an honor and a shared celebration both in our district and our school community. However, I must say that at the heart of this celebration is truly the focus and commitment of our students and teachers who lead by example by putting forth their very best every day!”

The USDOE recognized Dickerson and Dodgen as “Exemplary High Performing” schools, which are among a state’s highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.

“This recognition is the result of our vision to allow students to grow academically, cognitively, emotionally, and socially through service and leadership,” said Dr. Loralee Hill, Principal of Dodgen Middle School. “Our teachers and staff are committed to providing our students with rigorous and challenging opportunities that will allow them to gain the knowledge and skills to be successful in their next phase of life. This honor truly belongs to everyone associated with Dodgen Middle School.”
