It’s not every day teachers give their students permission to shower them with colored powder. However, that’s exactly what Shallowford Falls Elementary School teachers and staff members did October 13 to reward students for exceeding their fundraising goal for the annual Fox Trot Fun Run. The students raised $41,000, which is a thousand dollars more than their goal.
The Fox Trot Fun Run is the annual (#teamfox) fundraiser at Shallowford Falls organized by both the school’s PTA and Foundation. For the 2017-18 school year, the funds raised will go toward installing three filtered water bottle filling stations as well as three new iPad carts containing 36 new iPads per cart.
To celebrate, the students took to the field with the colored powder in hand and doused the following teachers: Rachael Vincent, pre-kindergarten; Toni Samuelu, kindergarten; Ilene Hollinger, kindergarten; Michele Provost, first grade and Teacher of the Year; Leigh Prosser, second grade; Amy Koenning, third grade; Paul DeVigne, fourth grade; Jeana Mello, fifth grade; Amy Bahr, bookkeeper and Classified Employee of the Year; and Elizabeth Bridges, custodian.
For the grand finale, Principal Felicia Angelle, and Assistant Principal Jill Spiva joined the fun. Their students showered them in a rainbow of colors.
This school-wide reward has become a tradition at Shallowford Falls. When students have exceeded the fundraising goal in past years, the principals slept on the roof of the school, served themselves up as human frozen yogurt sundaes, and rode a mechanical bull.
