National Watch D.O.G.S. Program Recognizes Bullard Elementary for Family Engagement

The national school engagement program, Watch Dads of Great Students (Watch D.O.G.S.), recently recognized Bullard Elementary School for exceptional performance in family engagement.

Watch D.O.G.S. volunteers aim to provide positive male role models for students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important. The program participants also work to reduce bullying.  The National Watch D.O.G.S. program recognizes schools throughout the nation, like Bullard Elementary, for high levels of family engagement at the local level.

The program honored Bullard for having a high number of volunteers participating as Watch D.O.G.S. at the school. More than 140 Bullard dads and father figures stepped in to volunteer for at least one full day during the year. Watch D.O.G.S., which is coordinated through the PTSA, serve in at least two volunteer positions every school day.

According to Keith C. Schumacher, national family and community engagement coordinator for Watch D.O.G.S., Bullard’s program resulted in a huge increase in family engagement and high PTSA membership and participation.

Pickett’s Mill Elementary School earned the same Watch D.O.G.S. recognition in 2009.
