Cobb’s magnet programs allow students to pursue their interests, develop their talents, and extend their competencies beyond the usual scope of high school.
September offers the opportunity for parents and students to learn about all the magnet programs available in the Cobb County School District and how to go about applying. Magnet coordinators, teachers, students, and magnet parents from all six Cobb magnet schools will help host two information sessions for prospective students and their parents. The first information session will be held 6:00-8:00 p.m. September 6 at Wheeler High School. The following week, an information session will be held at Pebblebrook High School 6:00-8:00 p.m. September 11.
Due to limited space at each program, students are selected through a highly-competitive, rigorous application process. Applications to academic magnets are due in early December. Performing arts candidates participate in an application/audition process during spring semester.
This year, there is a new testing procedure in place for students who do not currently attend a school in the Cobb County School District (CCSD). The Cobb magnet schools will no longer be offering an alternate entrance exam for non-CCSD students, which includes private school, homeschool, and out of district students.
Non-CCSD students will now need to sign up to take the test with Applerouth Testing Services, which will then provide the results to both the school district and the families. This change allows for more testing dates to help accommodate family schedules. Plus, the families will now get more feedback about the student test results. More information is available in the flyers linked below.
