The bus is the safest way to get kids to and from school, and Cobb Schools is top in school bus safety. As evidence, the Cobb Schools Transportation Department recently won the highest transportation safety award in Georgia.
Among the reasons, the Georgia Department of Education praised Cobb for creating student rider lists with photos of each student to support new drivers and substitute drivers. To focus on safety, the district uses the S.O.A.R. program with an emphasis on loading and unloading.
In preparation for the new school year, take a moment to review the new bus routes, which are now available here. Bus runs and maps will be posted at the local school for review two weeks prior to the first day of school.
Now is the time to also download the Here Comes the Bus App, which rolled out in March. The new app allows parents to track their child’s bus in real-time on a map. The Cobb Schools Transportation Department transports more than 70,000 students via about 1,000 school buses every day. That’s more than MARTA! And yet, parents will still know exactly where the specific bus carrying their child is at on the route to and from school thanks to the new app.
Don’t Forget Water!
Due to the extreme heat, water will be allowed on the buses during the months of August and September only. ALL students may bring water in containers with a screw-on lid. If you have any questions, please contact the Transportation Department at 678-594-8000, or email your transportation area supervisor whose email can be found on the Transportation website.
Attention Parents of children 8 years old or younger:
A yellow tag will be issued to students who are 8 years old or younger. Please attach it to your child’s book bag. This tag will assist transportation staff to quickly identify that your student is 8 years old or younger, which provides another safety net for proper delivery of your child. The yellow tag must remain on the top strap of your child’s bookbag and be visible to the driver at all times for the entire school year. For safety purposes, do not write or remove the tag.
The annual Kindergarten and First Grade Ride Along will be Wednesday, July 31, 2019. K-1 students, along with their parents, are invited to ride the bus the day before school starts, as a practice run prior to the first day of school on August 1. Use the opportunity to test out the Here Comes the Bus app, too.
For the Kindergarten and First Grade Ride Along, buses will run at regularly scheduled morning pick up times. Parents and students should be at the bus stop at least 5 minutes early. Check the bus route website for your specific bus route information. Due to limited space, we ask that you limit the number of additional family members riding. Only school-age children are allowed to ride as our regular buses are not equipped with car seats. The bus will follow the planned route to school, then return to the bus stop.
