Parent Education Event at Allatoona High School to Discuss Effects of Social Media

How does screen time impact students?

Cobb parents are going to learn about the effects of social media on the mental health of children during a free public event at Allatoona High School on August 29 at 7 p.m.

Youth Advocate and TEDx speaker, Collin Kartchner, who be speaking at Allatoona, started a nationwide movement last year called “Save the Kids”. He fights for students struggling with anxiety, depression, and suicide ideation amplified by social media and phone addiction.

Kartchner has helped thousands of teenagers improve their mental health. Last year, he spoke more than 500 times to audiences that included Nike and Adidas headquarters, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and hundreds of schools.

The parent event will touch on the connection between screen time/social media and anxiety, depression, and suicide, as well as, how to create a plan to responsibly balance social media with real life.
