Some Cobb School social workers have a few more resources to help families in the Smyrna area thanks to the recent gift card donations from Smyrna Primrose West.
For the past several years, the Smyrna daycare has held a gift card fundraiser at the beginning of the school year to help students and families in need. This year, the daycare donated almost $2,000 in gift cards.
The gift cards, which will support students in all grade levels in the Smyrna area, are used to purchase food, clothing, gas for cars, school supplies, and sometimes even medication.
“The gift cards provide the assistance needed to meet the students’ basic needs. The family is then able to focus on the academics for the students,” said Ana Murphy, Cobb Schools supervisor of the School Social Work Department.
Other community groups like Smyrna Primrose West can work with the Cobb Schools Social Work Department to get donations into the hands of those in need in the school community.
“Some students would benefit from assistance paying for chorus dues, band dues, and tickets to school activities,” added Murphy.
