No matter the outcome on Friday night, a Cobb school will boast the title of Class AAAAAA state champs. Starting at 8 p.m. Friday, December 13, the Allatoona High School Buccaneers will take the field against the undefeated Harrison High School Hoyas at the Georgia State University Stadium.
The Buccaneers are looking to reclaim bragging rights over their region rivals who bested them earlier in the year during the schools’ regular season match up.
The Hoyas carried their spotless record into the state playoffs where they pummeled Dacula High School 38-7 in the semifinals, securing a shot at the state title for the first time in almost two decades.
When asked about playing crosstown rival Allatoona for the championship, Hoya Head Coach Matt Dickmann was humble. “At least we’re going to keep it in Cobb, no matter what the outcome is. Gary [Varner, Allatoona’s Head Coach] is a great friend of mine so I’m happy for him, too.”
During the semifinals, Allatoona topped Richmond Hill High School in late-game heroics to win a rematch with Harrison for the Class AAAAAA crown. The Buccaneers won their last football championship when they claimed the title of 2015 Class AAAAA State Champs.
Allatoona already has one state championship title this year. The Buccaneers won the Class AAAAAA state title for Girls Volleyball.
Will the Buccaneers add another state title to their list on Friday night, or will Harrison continue their perfect season? It’s definitely a matchup that you don’t want to miss and one that will undoubtedly make history in Cobb Schools.
