Members of the Cobb County School District Board of Education met virtually for the monthly meeting Thursday. During the meeting, which was live-streamed on the District website, Board members voted to pay all salaried and hourly employees who are actively working in the District while schools are closed.
“I’m thankful that our Board recognizes the dedication of our staff who are actively teaching and supporting students while schools are closed. Our offices and classrooms may not look the same, but our mission remains unchanged: One Team, One Goal: Student Success,” said Cobb Schools Superintendent Chris Ragsdale.
The decision to hold the regular Board meeting via teleconference followed the guidance of federal, state, and local health officials who advised the public to avoid groups of 10 or more people.
“As with everything our Cobb educators do, their responsiveness, commitment, and support of students during this community crisis is remarkable—a true example to the rest of the state and nation. Just as our staff members continue to actively work to help our students succeed, it is our job to make sure they have the resources they need, which includes being able to rely on their regular pay,” said Cobb Schools Board Chair Brad Wheeler.
