New Principal Profile Q&A: Cynthia Winter, Riverside Elementary School

Question: Why are you excited about joining the Riverside Elementary School community?

Answer: “As a leader in the Pebblebrook community for twelve years, this area holds a special place in my heart. To have the opportunity to serve as the new principal of Riverside Elementary is a great honor.

Based on my visit to Riverside Elementary School, I can already tell the students are enthusiastic and full of potential. They love their teachers, are excited about learning, and will rise to meet any challenge. It is evident that the school community believes in and values the students and is dedicated to doing what is best for students. Building on this strong foundation, I am excited about working with the school community as we transition to a K-5 school to ensure student success.”

Question: What does student success look like for you?

Answer: “Student success is accomplished when students are responsible for their learning, believe in themselves, set and meet goals, show appreciation and kindness for others, and solve problems that affect our world.  Student success goes beyond a test score.

As Riverside’s principal, I will maintain high expectations and work collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure that every decision is aligned to student needs. I am a leader who likes to serve, works hard, and holds herself and others accountable for student success. My door is always open, and I desire to provide a safe space where students, staff, and parents can feel comfortable talking to me.”

Question: What do you like most about being an educator and principal?

Answer: “My true love and passion for educating children has led me to treasure every minute of my twenty-six years in education. As a principal, I most enjoy building relationships, identifying and cultivating the potential in others, and working collaboratively to make a positive difference in the lives of students. I take genuine joy in the growth and development of students.”

Question: Outside school, where might students, parents or staff members run into you?

Answer: “When I am not serving the Riverside school community, you will find me on the tennis court or spending time with family and friends at the movies, enjoying a nice meal, or at the beach.”
