The Georgia Library Media Association recently awarded Ingrid Hanson, library media specialist at Lindley 6th Grade Academy the Mable Wyche Underwood Grant for her enrichment book club from the Georgia Library Media Association.
The Mable Wyche Underwood Grant allows building-level library media specialists who are members in good standing of GLMA to develop, design, implement, or continue an ongoing program that promotes the use of the library media center in the instructional program.
Mrs. Hanson will receive $880 for books and audiobooks to add to her enrichment book club, which targets students with the potential for reading growth and provides a positive, supportive, book club environment for them to read and discuss books weekly.
“In less than two months upon her arrival to LSGA, Ms. Hanson created a new environment and space that was inviting and engaging for our scholar,” praised Dr. Denise Magee, principal of Lindley 6th Grade Academy. “She is very passionate about literacy and she truly cares about our scholars having access to reading materials of their choice. I cannot imagine LSGA without her and the positive impact she has on school-wide literacy!”
Holly Frilot, Cobb Schools Supervisor of Library Media Education, echoed the praise for the Academy’s media specialist.
“Mrs. Hanson cares deeply about all her students and champions them as readers. In a short time, she has enriched the reading culture by establishing relationships with all the students at LSGA and providing books that keep kids coming back for more. Her enrichment book club is a shining example of how she develops literacy skills in an engaging way.”
Here’s what the Cobb media specialist had to say about winning the grant:
“I am thrilled to accept this grant from the Georgia Library Media Association! This funding will help the library learning commons to continue to foster student achievement through an interactive book club setting.”
