New Principal Profile Q&A: D. Cory Stanley, McClure Middle School

Question: Why are you excited about joining the McClure Middle School community? 

Answer: “The McClure Middle School staff is recognized by the community as an amazing team that puts students first and has established a tradition of excellence in Cobb. McClure is part of a vibrant community that is engaged with the school, its staff, and its students. What better opportunity could there be for me to support students, staff, and families?!  I am thrilled for the opportunity to join such an amazing team and cannot wait to see the excellence we can achieve together! 

I am a student-centered school leader who believes in a student-first approach to decision making. The work we do as educators changes young lives, and there is nothing more important than the needs of our students. McClure Middle School students are an enthusiastic, engaged, and diverse group with a history of excellence. I cannot wait to meet them and begin building relationships!” 

Question: What does student success look like for you?  

Answer: “Student success in middle school is about growth and therefore looks different for every student. At McClure Middle School, academic success is about growing every year in every subject. Whether a student starts the year at the top of the class or has struggled, they will be able to grow and therefore find success at McClure.  Additionally, success in middle school means growing socially and emotionally each day. We are better today than we were yesterday, and we will be better tomorrow than we are today.” 

Question: What do you like most about being an educator?  

Answer: “The best thing about being an educator is working with students every day. I believe there is no time in a student’s life they need guidance academically, socially, and emotionally more than they do in middle school, and I love being involved in this process. The work we do as educators impacts lives, and I am proud to be part of a team that believes in the power of building positive relationships with students so that we can meet their needs every day.” 

Question: Outside school, where might students, parents, or staff members run into you?  

Answer: “When I am not at work, my wife and I love hiking, camping, and spending time outdoors. You may also catch me at a local sporting event or concert. Of course, you will see me at many events showcasing our Mavericks off of our campus as well!”
