Walton High School Students Win National Drone Design Competition

Two Walton High School students recently captured first place in the LocoRobo 2020 Robotics Design Competition.

Rishab Rao and Pratyush Una, 12th graders in the Walton Engineering STEM Academy, won the national drone design competition, from among over 1,000 submissions. First prize is an award of $500.

Their submission, Subwelder, addressed the problem of underwater welding and included a CAD mode, a detailed animation of the design, and a 500-word essay describing the design. Design requirements required an air, ground, or underwater vehicle, a beneficial purpose for society, and incorporation of at least three sensors. These two seniors collaborated on the project virtually in April and May.

Rishab will attend the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, and Pratyush will attend Kennesaw State University in the fall.
