KES_ScienceDayThe Kennesaw Elementary PTSA recently sponsored Math and Science Night at the school to promote “thinking like a scientist!” Solve It! Take the Mystery out of Math and Science engaged students and parents in active investigations tied to the curriculum in a fun, informal environment.

Families actively explored math and science ideas, discovered together through guided inquiry, and applied their discoveries to solve a problem. All activities were hands-on and focused on a theme that links science and math to the real world. There were a variety of activity topics and degrees of difficulty to ensure there was something for all students. Families moved freely about the building choosing activities that best met the needs and interest of their children.

The Kell Robotics team demonstrated their robots for the students, Smith-Gilbert Gardens was on hand with activities for the students and the City of Kennesaw Environment Committee was in attendance to educate the students about the effects of recycling in our area. The students received a ticket to be placed on a large school wide graph that plotted the attendance numbers. Each student that came received a magnifying glass courtesy of the PTSA.

Approximately 310 magnifying glasses were distributed. In addition, the classes with the highest participation in each grade level were awarded a pizza party from Cici’s Pizza! The following teachers won for their grade level: Ms. Moore for Pre-K; Ms. Morris, Ms. Schoening and Ms. Taylor all tied for Kindergarten; Ms. Fenstermaker for first grade; and Ms. Montante for second grade.
