The Lassiter DECA club held its fourth annual “Pink Out” event Oct. 7 to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness. This month-long community service project set two goals: to involve more of the Lassiter community members than in previous years and to raise at least $3,500. With the help of its over 300 members, the LHS DECA club was able to raise over $2,600 from the Pink Out alone.
DECA members developed a Pink Out t-shirt which they sold prior to and at the game. They also sold pink sunglasses, pink ribbon tattoos and pink ribbon lollipops. In addition to members selling items, LHS cheerleaders and members collected donations. In an effort to raise awareness, members wrote press releases, utilized social media, distributed free pink ribbon stickers and passed out free pink football game programs created by Lassiter Sports & Entertainment Marketing students.
Additional fundraising activities for the month will include an October 18th Spirit Night with LHS Partner in Education, Sandy Plains Yogli Mogli and a class contest which will be held during Homecoming week. All money raised will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in honor of a 1993 Lassiter Graduate, Pam Hutchinson Butler.
