New Clarkdale Elementary To Be Dedicated Aug. 4

The Cobb community is invited to attend a dedication ceremony for the new Clarkdale Elementary School building Saturday, August 4 from 10 a.m. – noon. Hosted by longtime principal Marjorie Bickerstaff, the ceremony is the first opportunity for the public to see the completed new facility, located adjacent to Cooper Middle School in Austell. A massive flood destroyed the original school on Sept. 21, 2009, filling the building with water from floor to ceiling. Since that time, Clarkdale has maintained its own identity, with students attending classes in their own sections at Austell and Compton elementary schools.

The Cobb County Board of Education voted in February 2010 to rebuild a new, larger Clarkdale that would also relieve overcrowding at Hollydale, Sanders and other nearby elementary schools. The first classes will be held on Monday, Aug. 13, when all Cobb County students return for the 2012-2013 school year.
