Dowell Elementary Honors Local Veterans With Patriotic Parade and Breakfast

More than 60 local veterans were honored in an extraordinary celebration at Dowell Elementary School on Friday, November 15, 2013. Students have been learning about veterans and patriotic symbols over the previous weeks. Their learning culminated with a parade travelling through the school hallways comprised of students with their veteran family members, beautiful miniature floats created by staff members and patriotic music. The veterans and their families were invited to a moving program of singing and presentations by various grade levels, followed by a delicious breakfast donated by Dowell staff members. This was all meant to thank and honor those who have served our country.  Organizer Debbie O’Keefe, a parapro at Dowell for the last 17 years, summed up the program perfectly. “The program is two-fold, first to thank the veterans and second to plant the seeds for future veterans of America,” said O’Keefe.
