Lindley Middle School’s Science Decathlon Team finished ninth in the nation at the NCD National Competition. The team consisted of Chris Coakley (7), Michael Fisher (7), Tiera Guinn (7), Shari King (7), Ben Milner (6), and Maurice Montgomery (7). These six team members with alternates, Xavier Barr (Cooper Middle, 8 ) and James Glenn (7) attended the National Finals at NC State University where they competed in the Decathlon against representatives of the eight regions from all across the United States of America. Coaches for the team included two students, Ernest “Skip” Butler (7) and John Keaton (7), assistant coaches, Treva Barr and Marilyn Newsome, and head coach Allen Newsome.
The team made its way to the national competition by receiving a gold medal in Four N Six and a bronze medal in Geotrekker at the East Coast Regional Competition held the first weekend in February.
Lindley’s team was the first team from Metro Atlanta area to earn the opportunity to compete at the national competition.
