Teachers Return To Cobb; Several Schools Celebrate AYP

Cobb teachers returned to their schools Aug. 4 after two months of well-deserved vacation. Before students return next Monday, school faculties will spend this week meeting, planning, organizing and strategizing for the upcoming school year. Four schools began the new year with celebrations; South Cobb High, Campbell Middle, Floyd Middle and Norton Park Elementary are beaming with pride in making Adequate Yearly Progress under tough state standards.

During the first faculty meeting of 2008-09, South Cobb High School principal Dr. Grant Rivera thanked his staff for their hard work in motivating students and creating a positive school culture. South Cobb made AYP for the second consecutive year and is one of two Cobb schools to come off the state’s ‘Needs Improvement’ list (along with Norton Park Elementary).

In Smyrna, the Campbell Middle School staff was treated to a breakfast spread and performance by the Campbell High drumline. The breakfast ‘pep rally’ celebrated the school making AYP for the first time.

Campbell Middle School principal Denise Magee encouraged her staff to continue their focus on student performance, exclaiming that Campbell teachers are “polishing stars” every day in the classroom.

Celebrations of success throughout the District will continue when students arrive in Cobb schools August 11!
