Pope FFA Horticulture Club Competes In Nursery Landscape Competition


The Pope High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) members’ long hours of practiced paid off as they competed in the Northwest Georgia Nursery Landscape Competition the week of Oct. 20 at North Metro Tech in Acworth, Georgia. The team placed 7th among 30 competing school clubs.

FFA members include Hollis Brewer, Drew Leuenberger, Meghan Annis, Paige Hall, Nikki Tucker, Jacob Nichols, and FFA teacher Joe Green  The FFA Nursery Landscape contest consists of a written exam, problem solving, landscape design analysis, and identification practicum of plant, disorder and equipment samples. The competition is based on the educational objectives of the Georgia Agriculture Education horticulture curriculum and standard practices in the horticulture industry.

The purpose of the career development event is to connect students with what is taught in the classroom to practices utilized in the Georgia Green Industry. Additionally the competition promotes academic achievement and competence for students who seek a future in horticulture industry.
