Pickett’s Mill Elementary in Acworth opened its doors for the first time this August bringing students from three elementary schools together. On October 17, the school held its first annual Fun Run and Pirates Picnic. The first rain in weeks did not dampen the spirit and enthusiasm of the students while running a mile around the school and then moving inside to enjoy games, activities and a family picnic. This event was designed to unite families and students in building a new school community.
Judging from the smiles observed at the end of the evening, this mission was accomplished. The Pickett’s Mill PTA has achieved 100% enrollment for their membership drive. The school will be having a recycled scarecrow contest for students on Oct. 31; the scarecrows will be displayed around the school through November. The school will also run a canned food drive in November benefiting Tackle Hunger of Acworth.
