Wheeler Boys Basketball to Participate in National Tournament in New York City

dicksThe GHSA Class AAAAAA State Boys Basketball Champion Wheeler Wildcats will participate in the Dick’s Sporting Goods National High School Basketball Tournament in New York City April 2-4.

The annual tournament will feature the eight top-ranked teams in the country. Wheeler enters the tournament currently ranked sixth in the country, with one of their regular season victories coming against second-ranked Montverde Academy of Florida, the winner of the 2014 Dick’s Tournament.

Wheeler defeated Pebblebrook High School 59-58 in the State Championship Game March 7 in Macon, as forward Jaylen Brown made two clutch free throws with just 0.5 seconds left in the game and his team down a point.
Wheeler is celebrating the team’s championship season and invitation to New York by holding a “Parade of Basketball Athletes” at the school March 13.

All tournament games will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks, with the championship game being held in New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden.
